The nationwide Goods and Services Tax (GST) came into effect on July 7, 2009. This integrated tax system was introduced in response to various taxes including sales tax, production tax and service tax.

According to a central government official, “monthly shake-ups will be held by the revenue department on the basis of GST receipts in the hands of the customers. A cellphone processor will be launched for this purpose. Customers will be able to scan and upload their GST receipts and participate in shake ups. There is no need to give a certain amount of product or service. There will be statewide bumper awards, second and third prizes.
“The GST lottery prize amounted to one million rupees to one crore rupees,” said a member of the indirect and customs board.
