Versions of Skype for Blackberry and the Nokia N97 phones are still not on hand even months after it was promised to be made available. On the other hand, a version for Symbian based Nokia phones have just been set out in beta.
Skype publicized in February 2009 that it would have a Skype’s N97 version available in the third quarter and it declared in April that it would have a thin Skype client accessible as a free download for BlackBerry smartphones in May, primarily a beta version for the BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Bold. None of these has reached out yet for use. By about the end of December there was a post on the blog site of Skype where the general manager of Skype’s mobile business, Russ Shaw apologized for the delay. He said that the releases were on their way but, unfortunately, had to face some delays which were beyond their control.
The BlackBerry application is in private beta trying at the moment, and they are working hard to make the best achievable Skype experience on both of these devices, he added. However, Skype did calmly release on 10th of December a beta version of Skype for Symbian that runs on Nokia Symbian S60 third Edition Feature Pack 2 and Feature Pack 1 devices, as well as a number of trendy E and series handsets.
The version offers support for free Skype to Skype calls and calls to other phones over WiFi or 3G networks Shaw said. It is said that they would release the gold version as soon as they complete their testing on a wide range of phones including touchscreen handsets. For the time being, Skype has advanced its plans for firm integration with Nokia devices. According to Shaw, it is the first instance of their deep integration work with Nokia. In this, Skype is completely built in to the operating system of the phone with no extra downloads required.
