Samsung Omnia II

Samsung Omnia II

Samsung Omnia II is an amazingly attractive phone, particularly when compared to the Omnia I. Omnia II positively has a few added curves to it. The screen is reasonably larger in size. You will feel the phone comfortable enough in your hand, despite the fact that it is a bit greasy because of the plastic material. The box itself comes incorporated with AC adapter, a microphone/FM radio antenna, USB cable, stylus, reference material and a software CD.

Samsung has integrated a 3.7″ screen and supports 480×800 WVGA resolution. The Omnia II has a resistive-based screen that is harder to press. You might feel it difficult especially when using the keyboard. The Omnia II is made mainly of plastic and hence a bit light in weight. The Omnia II comes with MicroSD slot, volume adjustment keys, and an OK button to get out of current programs, which is placed comfortably on the left side of the handset. It is presented with a MicroUSB charger port, camera shortcut and a screen lock button on the right.

The Samsung Omnia II is certainly Windows Mobile 6.5 with TouchWIZ interface combined. It seems most of the whole 6.5 aspect is missing from the phone since Samsung redesigned the main menu as well. You have 5 menu screens in the beginning but as you download more apps you can inflate the menu to 10 screens. Basically, this gives you a total of 120 probable icons at the same time.

A simple button is there for the Task Switcher which let you switch back and forth between diverse tasks and apps. It also has the Widget Store which let you download and purchase widgets. Another addition in it is the Swype-capable keyboard. Swype let you begin with the first letter and then drag your finger over to the next until you finish with the word. The phone figures out what you are to type and will suggest possible words if it can’t shape it out for you. It automatically adds a space as and when you move through your sentence.

Opera Mobile is also integrated in the Omnia II, besides the standard IE. Opera Mobile is modified to have a zoom option with Samsung touch. It also has WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0, which allows stereo as well as mono. The cube feature is also present in it but is superfluous. Anyway, the Omnia II adds a new bar at the base of the Cube screen featuring all 6 apps.

The Omnia II consists of a 5.0 Mega Pixel camera with flash and video potentials at a 720×480 resolution and 18 fps. The videos were slightly choppy. The camera application has the ability to alter ISO and MP res, and panoramic mode captivating up to 8 shots. Anti-shake is also offered. It allows DivX playback as well as XviD, MP4 and WMV. FM radio is possible with an antenna included in the box. Another included feature on the device is the voicedial.

The Samsung Omnia II runs an 800 MHz processor with 256 MB RAM and 512 ROM. It has an internal memory capacity of 8 GB together with 16 GB MicroSD expansion. Another clean aspect of the phone is the 1500 mAh battery which permits 10 hours of rated talk time and a standby of 18 days. Audio quality in both music and calls is crisp and clear. On the whole, it seems that the i920 Omnia II is a commendable successor to the i910 Omnia in almost all aspects.
