Mozilla has released a new application called Prism which can be used to create desktop shortcuts to WebPages. These shortcuts can be placed on the desktop, Start menu or the Dock (in Mac OS). After the shortcuts have been created, we just need to right click it to load the associated Web page in the Firefox window. The Prism created Firefox window has a minimalist interface. It does not support bookmarks and tabs. The only options available on the right click menu are copy and paste and the address bar is read only.

Though the options are limited, the advantages of Prism are plenty. Since prism creates an object of Firefox for every site, a non-responsive script cannot shut down the whole browser instances, and the user can continue working with other sites, if at all one page crashes. Secondly the Prism offers fast browsing since it will not load the existing themes or extensions. Prism also enables a user to login into different web accounts in the same domain simultaneously by letting him to create different shortcuts for different accounts. The user can add these shortcuts to startup so that the page gets loaded on stating the computer.

Usually the hyperlinks are opened in the default browser when using Prism. It can be overridden by editing the configuration file and adding the sites which are to be opened in prism itself. The user can access a particular web page using prism without opening the entire tabs closed together last time. Prism is available as a Firefox extension as well as a standalone application.
