Windows VISTA is one of the latest version of Windows from Microsoft,but still not the fastest.One of the main reason for this is that VISTA will run all routines in the background even while after the user done with GUI.Another reason is they will try to  run a cutting edge product in a non supporting machine.Microsoft spent about $10 billion on VISTA,so it is necessary to make the VISTA run faster.

STEPS

1.ADD THE RUN COMMAND TO THE START MENU

Windows Vista do not  has the Run command on its Start Menu.So user can’t run a program with out navigating through the GUI(menus and folders),which will reduce the speed.

To add the ‘Run command’ to the Vista Start menu,first right click the ‘Taskbar’ by selecting an open area.Then click on ‘Properties’.By clicking the ‘customize button’ select the Customize Start Menu.Scroll down the menu and find the ‘Run command’ checkbox. Press OK and the Run command will add to the Start Menu of VISTA.

2.DISABLE THE WELCOME CENTER AND SIDEBAR

VISTA includes Welcome center and Sidebar in its start menu.User need to disable those to increase the speed.

User can  disable the Welcome center,by unchecking the ‘Run a Startup’ button located at the bottom of the Welcome center.

To disable the Sidebar ,first right click the Windows Sidebar option  in the system tray.Then press the icon ‘Properties’.

Uncheck the Start Sidebar and then press OK.

3.CHANGING THE PRODUCT KEY

Some times user need to  upgrade his current version to a version with more whistles and bells which will increase the speed significantly .For this user need to select a new ‘Product Key’.

User can find a link ‘Change Product Key ‘ from under the ‘Windows Activation’.By clicking that link user can see a screen  where he can enter his  new ‘Product Key’.

4.START WINDOWS EXPLORER AT SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN DOCUMENTS

In Start menu user can see a short cut “Copy the Windows Explorer”  just  under the ‘ Accessories’ to the desktop.

By right clicking it select the link ‘properties’. Change the target which is filed to the required location and then press OK.

5.DISABLING THE PRIVACY TWEAK

VISTA will display and save a list of recently opened programs and files in  the Start Menu,which will reduce the over all speed of the system.So user need to disable them to increase the speed.

By right clicking  theTaskbar select Properties from  the resulting menu.Then click the ‘Start Menu’ tab.Un check the privacy check boxes.Then press OK.

6.USE SMALLER ICONS

Use of small icons instead of large icons will  help to increase the speed of VISTA.

First,right click theTaskbar menu and press on  ’Properties’.Then by clicking the “start menu Tab” select the ‘Customize’ button.Uncheck the “Use large icons” check box and then press OK(twice)

7.REDUCE DESKTOP ICONS

By reducing the desktop icons or by changing them to classic icons user can improve the performance of VISTA .

First,by right clicking  on the Desktop select “View Menu ” item.Then change them to classic icons.User can also remove the unnecessary desktop icons from here.

8.SET THE FOLDER OPTIONS

Select the ‘Control Panel’ and press on  the ‘Folder Options icon’.

By clicking  on the ‘View tab’,check or un check the folder options.User can change the folder preferences,too.

9.ADJUSTING THE POWER SETTINGS

By adjusting the power settings user can improve the performance of VISTA.

First open the Control Panel and then press the ‘Power Options’ icon .By selecting  the ‘change plan settings’ icon user can change the power settings.He can also select the advanced power settings from there.
