How to download embedded flash using your browser ?

Flash files are one of the major decorative elements of almost all websites nowadays. Let it be small animations, games, advertisements anything, the flash is present everywhere. These interactive flash files are embedded to the WebPages, and deliver a great browsing experience for the users. The flash contents are really attractive that  you may want to download it and enjoy them over and over. Enjoying them over and over online is costly, so better if we could download the flash content and store it to our hard disk.

The question now arises is how can we download the embedded flash content from the WebPages. Before answering this question we must have a clear cut idea about how the flash files are embedded in the WebPages. Flash animation files are embedded in the WebPages as SWF(small web format) files. It is a standalone file which can be run using a browser. Now lets go back to the question at the beginning of this paragraph. Certainly the answer is yes. We can download the flash files in the swf format from the WebPages to our system. The only utility we need is a web browser. Now we can check how this download can be done in various popular web browsers.

Downloading *.swf using Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open the page with the flash content you want to download.
  2. On an empty space right click and select the view page info option, or select this option from tools.
  3. Select the media tab from the window that pops up.
  4. Find out the items with .swf extension from the list, and click on ‘save as’ and chose the location to save the file.

Downloading *.swf using Internet Explorer

In IE the Temporary Internet Files folder stores all the rendered files in it during browsing. So we only need to find out the particular file we want, from the Temporary Internet Files folder and copy paste it to our hard disk. Here are the steps.

  1. In the Menu go to Tools/internet options .
  2. Click on settings under browsing history.
  3. Click on view files on the new window that opens that is the window temporary internet files and display settings.
  4. In tools unhide all files and folders.
  5. Now locate the file you want to copy and copy paste it to your hard disk.

Downloading *.swf using Opera.

Perform any of the two steps to get the list of all the downloaded elements of the WebPages.

  • Enter opera:cache in the address bar.
  • From toolbar, go to Tools – Advanced – Cache.

Now locate the file with .swf format or search for it with *.swf as the keyword.

Right-click on a particular file and choose either Saved Linked Content As or Save to Download Folder to and save the .swf file in the system hard disk.

The downloaded data can be enjoyed using a flash player.
