Internet Explorer offers a feature in it to remember the frequently used passwords. But there a big security risk associated with it. The personal user names and passwords will be automatically entered for anyone who uses your computer and can access those sites. The purpose of having user names and passwords are being defeated if they are automatically entered by the computer.

You can have control over the information which the Internet Explorer AutoComplete feature stores in it, or you can turn off AutoComplete feature completely using the following these steps:

1) Click on Tools in the Internet Explorer browser window

2) Click on Internet Options

3) On the Internet Options configuration options, click the Content tab.

4) On the AutoComplete section, click on Settings button.

You can select different types of information that can be stored in AutoComplete:

Web addresses saves URL’s that you type and tries to complete them Internet Explorer browser window the next time so the user don’t have to type the address each time.

Forms stores data like your phone number and address to which helps in populating form fields so that you need not retype the information each time.

User names and passwords on forms saves these data for all the sites you visit and can automatically enter them when you visit that site again. A sub-option is provided to check so that you will prompted each time rather than saving the passwords automatically. Be careful about saving passwords for high sensitive sites such as your bank account. AutoComplete can be entirely turned off by deselecting each box. Even if the AutoComplete option is turned off or the option to save your user names and passwords in AutoComplete is disabled, the password that has been already stored will remain there. To completely remove the stored passwords go to the General tab and Delete the Browser History.

I have tried all of the tips to make internet explorer quit doing auto-complete — but it still does — hotmail for example — I start to type a name and it brings up every name / address I’ve ever typed with the same starting letter. I don’t want it to do this at all. How do I stop it?
