AUTORUN EATER

Microsoft has introduced a feature in windows to launch installers and other programs automatically from a CD, DVD or flash drive called AUTORUN function. When an external media is connected to a system, windows looks in the root directory of it for the file autorun.inf and executes the commands in that if found. but this poses a serious risk. Since auto run can be used for inserting viruses (Mostly Trojans and worms) from removable media containing an autorun.inf file with its executable in the root. In windows XP and Vista there are options to shutdown the auto run feature but they cannot prevent the execution of malicious auto run files effectively. When a device infected with a malware and autorun.inf is connected to the system the shell menu is modified such that the malware runs automatically on double clicking the drive. However, there are solutions to this problem. Out of them Autorun Eater is a convenient one. Autorun Eater is designed to remove suspicious ‘autorun.inf’ files which the most antivirus softwares fails to remove. These files are backup’ed automatically in case of false detections. The main features of Autorun Eater are,

  1. Scan and remove the suspicious ‘autorun.inf’ files from all drives’ root directory.
  2. Scan can be enabled by Hot key.
  3. Start, Pause and Stop Scan options
  4. Scan priority selection.
  5. The results are logged
  6. Add and Remove from start up entry
  7. Fix 3 common registry entries commonly disabled by malwares
