Audio not working in windows .. how to fix ?

Problems have been reported that the audio is not working properly in windows following the installing and uninstalling of some devices. For example following the installation of the wireless modem the audio can get affected. It is not necessary that the audio will get affected in all cases, but there is a chance for that.

Usually the reasons for this malfunctioning of audio in windows may be one of the following

  • Some device or software is installed which has a tendency to  gain the control as the default audio device.
  • Sometimes deletion of certain programs will also delete some shared files. It is possible that these shared files are really important ones for the windows and the missing of these files will lead to various errors in windows like the error in audio.
  • The installation of certain games tries to gain the control of various sound and voice drivers in the system. This will ultimately cause errors to the windows audio.

How can we fix this problem and make the windows give good audio output. There is some simple troubleshooting which can actually fix this problem. Let’s take a closer look at this method.

Step 1) Go to control panel/Sounds and audio devices and open the audio tab.

Step 2) Check your default audio device settings, whether it is a playback device or a sound recording device. Select the appropriate one from the drop down menu. Make sure that you have selected your sound card or on board audio device. The field shouldn’t be left blank or filled by some modem device. If you can’t find your device in the drop down list infer that your driver got affected. It may got corrupted or removed. So you need to reinstall your drivers. In such cases go to step 3.

Step 3) To reinstall your drivers put your sound card/ mother board CD inside the drive and choose your sound card driver from the CD and install it. In case if you don’t have the CD just download the latest drivers from the web and install them onto the computer.

Step 4) Restart your computer and go back to step 1 and step 2. Identify your device from the list and make them the respective default devices.
