Safari AdBlock 0.3.2 is a simple, yet powerful ad-blocking plug-in for Safari. The plug-in is available as a shareware that will do most of the things for you(as long as it is ad-blocking). A list of the resources that are used to advertise on a website (includes images, scripts and animations) is maintained by the application. The rest of the work is left to the AdBlock team. This is one of those applications for which you can use the phrase “set it and forget it”.

AdBlock is not for the user who wishes to set preferences on the way a site is allowed to advertise to him. Rather, it is for the average user who just wants his ads blocked and does not want to know how it is accomplished. Once you install the application, an AdBlock pane appears in the preferences panel for Safari. Safari AdBlock also permits you to add custom filters of your like.

2. CutX 2.0

CutX 2.0 is another ad-blocker plug-in that will perform all your ad-blocking needs in Safari. It is implemented as an extension of the Input Manager and can be easily installed and launched. The assistant provides help during first-launch to guide you through the setting up of all the functions. This application will manage all your trusted websites.

CutX checks the web pages prior to their displaying on the screen and does it lightning fast. The first priority of CutX is to block the Ads option. The plug-in blocks all the X-rated medias and the user is powered to disable the sites containing X-rated images or just the pictures themselves. CutX 2.0 is available at $19, with the advanced versions being priced slightly higher.

3. Floppymoose

Floppymoose is a freeware plug-in for ad-blocking in Safari. This is a CSS file that will empower the browser in blocking ads. The application can be launched from the advanced option under the preferences title in the Safari menu.

4. GlimmerBlocker

GlimmerBlocker is another ad-blocking plug-in for Safari. GlimmerBlocker is a lot different from the other safari ad-blocking plug-ins. While all the usual ad-blocking plug-ins are installed as extensions of Input Managers or as Application Enhancers, GlimmerBlocker gets implemented as an http proxy.

Thus, while all the other plug-ins hamper the stability of Safari, GlimmerBlocker does not interfere with the source code and has no effect on either the stability or the running of the program.

5. Pith Helmet 2.6.6

Pith Helmet is an efficient ad-blocking SIMBL plug-in for Safari that is equipped with a lot of powerful features. The plug-in is capable of setting rules and guidelines for advertisements, scripts and animations per-sites. However, you can exclude your favourite sites from the rules, from the context menu. Pith Helmet can apply javascript and custom CSS to individual sites.

The new version has been equipped with the ability of blocking pop-under ads and so the application takes a bit more effort to set up compared to the previous versions. Basic preferences for the application can be implemented in the main preferences panel. Specific rules for individual sites can be set in the site-preferences window. The 2.6.6 version has been edited to provide fixed support for NetNewsWire 2.1. Pith Helmet 2.6.6 is a shareware and is currently available at $10.

6. SafariBlock 1.2

SafariBlock is an ad-blocker plug-in for Safari that blocks advertisements and frames through the context menu. SafariBlock is another of those input manager extensions that perform ad-blocking in Safari. From the Safari Preferences window, you can disable the application (if you ever need to!). Right-click on an image or a frame and a pop-up displays the option to block the same.

Ad-filters are implemented through this interface. Flash animations can be blocked by clicking on the ‘Right-click Flash’ option in the menu. The 1.2 version has been powered with the 3.x capability. The issues concerning the “check for updates” option has also been fixed for the new version.

7. Safari Plus 1.5

This is another freeware plug-in that blocks ads in Safari and provides a great way of managing the cookies.. SafariPlus is also an InputManager extension that adds a preference menu item to the Safari menu. Thus, you are able to monitor and control a list of cookie domains. This plug-in also has the option for blocking animated ads, like most other ad-blockers.

You can create a list of your favourite sites and also decide on those sites that you wish to block. SafariPlus will make sure the non-favourite sites are always blocked.
