Is there a virus alert for PS3 ?

The security measures taken in the designing of PS3s are so powerful that no viruses can potentially attack your PS3. Therefore, naturally there are no virus scans for PS3 since there are no viruses. From this it is clear that the PS3 console will never show any virus alerts.

            But cases have been reported with PS3 showing certain virus alerts. It is common with PC to show virus alerts while browsing the web, but not so common with the PS3s. So it is natural for the users to get tensed and to follow the warning messages which often warn the users about a possible data lose from the PS3. Users may misunderstand this message as actually a virus alert from the console and need to be paid attention. The major reason for such an assumption is that the font of the warning message is almost similar to the SONY’s official font. But we can never have the PS3 console shows any kind of virus alerts.

            Then from where the virus alerts come from? The answer is simple. You may be familiar with the rogue anti-spyware websites, which generally pop-ups in your PC while you browse the web. They will show virus alerts telling that you are infected by all sorts of viruses and is at risk, all with an intention of having you buy some security products which actually does nothing. The virus alerts they show are fake just as their security product. You can simply ignore those messages without any worry. The similar can happen while you browse the web with your PS3, too. Some of these sites can even trap you with certain non – closable pop-ups, too. They will fool you by using the official SONY font for the warning, to make it look like a console alert. What you should do is, simply ignore such warnings and continue with your work. Never give those fake sites a chance to eat up your head.
